Golden Road Brewery

Sacramento, CA | Completed: 2018
Client: Golden Road Brewing

Golden Road Brewery, a Los Angeles company founded in 2011, set on a journey to share their craft in a series of urban infill open-air brew pubs sprinkled along the coast of California. They turned to ACI to guide them with planning and design, alongside landscape firm Schmidt Design Group. The vision for the first brew pub would set the precedent for the rest to follow.

The infill project rejuvenated a defunct parking lot in an urban setting, creating a pedestrian destination outdoor pub that brews beer on site, offers pub fare, games, and a festive social environment.  Shipping containers are utilized as architectural shells to house all functions, including the kitchen and brew house. The environment is enriched by the bold colorful graphics on the containers. It was challenging for building officials to process the containers due to them being shell structures, but the great feedback from the community made the challenge worthwhile.

Signature trees create shade for alfresco dining with added ambiance provided by overhead market lights. Citrus trees were planted in order to pair fruit with the freshly brewed beer. Other signature features include large social fire pits, repurposed kegs and barrels as planters for herbs and vegetables, and popular games such as Giant Jenga, Giant Connect Four, and Corn Hole. All are welcome to join the festivities, and the pub is kid and dog friendly.
