The Big Wave Project
Half Moon Bay, CA | Completed: Under Construction
Client: The Big Wave Project
The Big Wave Project is a parent-driven, non-profit organization building community and an enduring home for young adults with special needs. In service of the tight knit community thriving within the small town community of Half Moon Bay, CA; this was an in-house collaboration on the architecture of this supportive housing multi-family community and interior design services.
With an exterior design based on coastal craftsman, the interior design concept was "Woven Wave." The interior concept is inspired by the local natural elements of sand, sea, cliffs, and trees, as well as the interconnectedness of this community within a community. In the contemporary style of coastal-cottage, the concept is casual, light and airy. Materials reflective of their natural form are the basis of the palate comprised of soothing earth tones accented with blues and greens. Pebbled patterns, large format stone tiles, cork, and wood looks, lay the foundation. Pattern applications in these materials, interpret the repetition of waves crashing, and the interconnectedness of community with selections that are organically graphic.
